At DataClassroom, we want our product to be as usable as possible by everyone, including those with physical disabilities.
Keyboard-only usage
The app is designed to be usable without a mouse or other pointing device. Using the keyboard with Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys and so on is fully supported.
Table and grid navigation can be difficult when there are long lists of content to navigate with the keyboard. The Ctrl-Alt-T shortcut key jumps your focus into whatever list you might be looking at (for example the Resource Library) and the Escape key will exit the list/grid and return to where you were.
Use of color and contrast
Our user interface colors (like buttons) are chosen and tested to have sufficient contrast for the poorly sighted, according to the WCAG guidelines. But colors are often used as the main way to separate categories of data when doing graphing.
For users with color-blindness there are two options when doing data visualization :
- Use of "color blind friendly" color scales such as Cividis. Read more about color scales here.
- Switch to black-and-white mode.
Black-and-white mode can be turned on in two ways.
- Select black-and-white mode as your default in your Settings. This means that all datasets you open will be viewed by yourself in black-and-white mode.
- Within a dataset set black-and-white mode (the left-hand-menu, under Dataset settings).
The dataset setting will be saved with the dataset and everyone opening it will see it in black-and-white mode.
